Danilo takes third place in race 2

Yari also wins Sunday’s race in Supersport and is first in the Championship.

Barni: “We all worked 100%, I’m proud of the riders and the team!”

A weekend to remember for the Barni Spark Racing Team, which returns from the trip to Australia with two victories by Montella in Supersport and a third place grabbed on the last lap of race 2 by Petrucci in Superbike.

Sunday was affected by accidents that disrupted the schedule and duration of the races. Due to track conditions, which were flooded with oil during one of the side categories, Supersport took to the track an hour and a half late and ran a race of only nine laps, without pit stops. Montella started from pole position thanks to the fast lap obtained in race 1 and dominated: having taken the lead, the rider from Campania led from start to finish, always maintaining a reassuring margin over Schroetter. Thanks to the one-two between race 1 and race 2 Yari is leading the World Supersport standings with 50 points, 14 more than Schroetter.

Great joy also in Superbike where, after a Superpole Race in which he had failed to take points (P15), Danilo was the author of an extraordinary performance in race 2. Starting twelfth, Petrux managed to make a comeback and by the third lap was already in seventh position, when the race was interrupted due to the accident to Rea. After the red flag, race management decided to opt for a restart over the distance of 10 laps, without a pit stop. The rider from Terni started from the seventh box on the grid and managed the tire well in the first half. On the seventh of the ten laps he then launched the attack on Sam Lowes and took sixth position, throwing his heart over the hurdle in the last two: after an overtaking and counter-overtaking with Iannone, Petrux overtook Rinaldi in a tire crisis and, on the last pass in Turn 4, overtook Iannone again; in the same turn Locatelli fell. At that point the Barni Spark Racing Team’s bearer found himself third, and at the finish line he took a very sweet podium.

The sixteen points from Race 2 added to the eight from Race 1 bring Petrucci to 24 in the overall standings, where he is sixth, second among independent riders.

Danilo Petrucci #9

It’s great to finish the weekend with a podium after a great battle. It was tough because even yesterday we could have fought for these positions, but we were unlucky in the pit stop, this morning I didn’t feel so comfortable on the bike and I was a bit nervous for race 2. However, in the first 3 laps I realized that I could latch on to the leading group and the second start after Jonny’s crash was also good. From mid-race on I thought I could finish the race as the best independent and I gave it my all. The last laps were crazy because I passed Iannone and Rinaldi, but then Andrea passed me again and on the last lap I thought ‘I’ll try again.’ When I went inside I saw Locatelli fall and I realized I was on the podium. I’m very happy because here in Australia I’ve never been too lucky, instead today it went great; also thanks to the work of the team we were able to collect this good result.

Yari Montella #55

It was truly an incredible weekend! I didn’t think I could start like this, but I am too happy. Together with the team we have to stay grounded and already think about the next races, but at the same time enjoy this good moment. Today’s race was quite difficult, the conditions in turn two were quite slippery because of the oil, but I tried to stay focused by pushing from start to finish to create some gap with everyone else. We did a really good job and I’m looking forward to Barcelona.

Yari took advantage of the potezialities of the Accossato radial brake master cylinder to win this overseas race. Below is the link to be able to purchase it from our b2b:

In Supersport it was a perfect weekend! It was not easy, but nobody did anything wrong. From the team to the rider everything worked! Today Yari was even better at staying focused and riding with lucidity. In Superbike everything was more difficult: after working all weekend to lose rear grip, this morning the track was not the same and we had to turn back. For race 2 we found the right solution and then Danilo put his own spin on it. I’m really proud of my team, they all gave 100 percent and the results rewarded us. We needed a start like that
