On April 6 and 7, the inaugural round of the Spanish Superbike Championship was held at the Circuito de Jerez.
Jose Regaña’s team has three riders this season; Eric Fernandez, Supersport NG runner-up, Mauro Gonzalez, and the new addition, Cameron Rende. The young Australian rider moves up a category and starts his career in the intermediate league with Team Speed Racing.
In free practice, both Mauro and Eric, showed to be the clear references occupying the front positions. This was confirmed in the timed practice with a second (#4) and fourth place (#37). Rende qualified 24th.
The first race of the weekend marked a milestone in the history of Team Speed Racing, Eric Fernandez led from start to finish, with his teammate Mauro, in second position. The project that started less than two years ago, occupied the positions of honor on the podium. Jose A. Regaña couldn’t believe it when he saw his two bikes cross the finish line - ‘’It’s a dream come true.’’
Unfortunately, Cameron was unable to compete in the race, as a failure in his bike forced him to abandon the race on the starting grid. Still, the projection so far was positive.
On Sunday, ‘’La Bala’’ closed the first event of the year with another victory, taking the fastest lap in the race. Mauro Gonzalez, who also took the fastest lap in race one on Saturday, finished fourth. Cameron Rende finished his first event with the team in 22nd place.
Team Speed Racing is now ready to face the next round, which will take place at Circuit Ricardo Tormo in Valencia, on June 1st and 2nd. We are waiting for you!
